Are you looking for a state park that offers something for the whole family, including your furry friend? St. Bernard State Park, located less than 20 miles southeast of New Orleans, fits the bill pawfectly.
Nestled on the banks of the mighty Mississippi, this tranquil park contains a network of man-made lagoons as well as woodlands, wetlands, and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Well-known as a popular picnic spot, the park also boasts a nature trail, a covered pavilion, and peaceful, leafy surroundings. You can also launch your boat just one-tenth of a mile from the park's entrance in the Caernarvon waterway, making this a popular spot with keen anglers.
And if you're traveling with kids, your little ones will love the on-site water playground. Offering a fun way to cool off in warmer weather, the playground is open Tuesdays through Sundays from April until October.
When you're ready to set up camp for the night, the St. Bernard State Park campground features 51 sites, each of which has water, electrical hook-ups, a picnic table, and a barbecue grill. The campground's bathhouse also offers hot showers and laundry facilities to help make your stay that little bit more comfortable.
A $2 park entry fee applies to visitors aged 16 and older, but this fee drops to $1 for younger guests. Camping fees also apply, so make sure you're fully aware of the total cost of your visit when planning your trip.
Please note that pets are not allowed in any buildings. If you're camping with your pet, your furry friend will need to be kept on a leash (not to exceed 6 feet in length), or caged or crated at all times. You'll also need to remember to clean up after your canine pal whenever necessary.
Best of all, the park is just a short drive from New Orleans, so there's really no excuse not to treat the family to a pet-friendly camping getaway here!
