Description

Staunton State Park is a beautiful, mountainous park with tons of great activities for you and your furry best friend! The park’s campground has 25 pawesome tent-only campsites, and the campground is surrounded by shady pine, spruce, fir, and aspen trees. Dogs are welcome to join you in this campground on-leash, and the nightly rates at this fun-filled campground range from $16-$20.

One of the most popular activities to do at Staunton State Park is hiking. The park has more than 30 miles of hiking trails that take you through alpine meadows and up to stunning overlooks. If you’d like to go for a long trek with your pup, hop on the 4.5-mile Mason Creek Trail. This out-and-back trail passes right by the park’s campground, and it takes you up to the Pikes Peak Overlook, which has an elevation of 9509 feet. The trail ends at a fascinating historic mill site. If you’d like to extend your hike, you can pick up the 1.1-mile Bulging Elk Trail at the mill site.

There are also plenty of furiffic shorter trails in Staunton State Park. If you’d like to walk around a lovely pond, check out the 2.3-mile Davis Pond Loop Trail. Or, if you want to hike to a scenic waterfall, try the 1.0-mile Lion’s Back Trail. No matter which trail you choose, you’re sure to have fun hiking at Staunton State Park!

After you’ve finished your day’s adventures, you and your pup can relax at your campsite. Each campsite comes with a bear-proof food locker and a picnic table where you can sit and enjoy the views of the park. You and your pup will both enjoy relaxing here!
