Description

Make no bones about it -- Tally Lake Campground is a furrific choice for your Fido-friendly Flathead National Forest adventure! That’s if you’re looking for a bit more of a rustic experience, because you won’t find any showers or RV hookups at this vacation destination.

Aside from the primitive facilities, Tally Lake is a bit more developed than a lot of US Forest Service campgrounds. While the sites are surrounded by mature pines, the picnic area and swim beach are located in well-maintained, grassy areas, and non-furry family members might enjoy the volleyball court.

As its name suggests, the campground is perched on the side of gorgeous Tally Lake. It might take you a while to realize what makes Tally Lake a little more dramatically beautiful than other lakes in the area -- it’s said to be the deepest one in Montana, and the depth lends the water a striking, deep blue color. You’ll also be treated to views of the Salish Mountain Range.

Tally Lake offers a couple of ways to stay. As well as the standard sites, there's a group campground available for larger gatherings. Though Tally Lake has been designated a light-usage campground by the USFS, it’s still best to make your reservation early, especially if you require an accessible site. Camping rates start at just $18 per night.

You and your buddy are sure to find something to keep you entertained during your stay! Keen anglers will be glad to know that Tally Lake is home to all sorts of species of trout, as well as kokanee salmon. Hound-dog hikers won’t need to venture too "fur" to find something of interest, either! Four-pawed fitness freaks might enjoy a trek on the Tally Lake Trail, which runs through wooded wonderland and features some steep inclines along its seven-mile route. If you’re out of breath just thinking about it, you might want to check out the Tally Lake Overlook, a one-and-a-half mile loop that rewards hikers with lovely views of the lake.

Tally Lake Campground in stunning Whitefish, Montana has something to offer both couch pup-tatoes and avid adventurers alike!
