#1. San Antonio / Alamo KOA

Voted top campground of the year in 2015 by Kampgrounds of America, this KOA is the best dog-friendly campground in San Antonio! In addition to all the modern conveniences you'd expect from an RV park, this 300-site campground offers an on-site restaurant, fishing pond, and pool. Your buddy will have room to roam in the 4,000-square-foot pet playground. Plus, you're just 10 minutes from the big-ticket attractions in downtown San Antonio.

#2. Government Canyon State Natural Area

Everything is bigger in Texas, and nowhere is this more evident than Government Canyon State Natural Area. This 12,000-acre expanse nestled 25 miles northwest of downtown is the "pawfect" place to commune with nature. Trek more than 40 miles of hiking trails and channel your inner paleontologist while examining the dinosaur tracks. Then, cozy up with your canine at one of just 23 primitive tent sites. Doggos must be leashed and kept out of buildings.

#3. Green Lake RV Resort

Located just a bone's throw from I-37 and I-410, Green Lake RV Resort is a convenient dog-friendly campground right in the heart of San Antonio. You'll enjoy all the standard amenities here, as well as a fishing lake, pool, spa, and computer room. This thoughtful park even offers a dog wash station for the canine campers. Call ahead with questions about the pet policy; restrictions may apply, but policies aren't listed online.

#4. Guadalupe River State Park

Like most state parks in Texas, Guadalupe River allows leashed, well-behaved doggos in the campground and outdoor areas. Set up camp at one of 94 tent and RV sites complete with water and electric hookups, restrooms, showers, and grills. Treat Sparky to a walk along 13 miles of multi-use trails, or unwind and cast a line in the Guadalupe River. This campground is a little closer to the city at just under an hour's drive.

#5. Alamo RV Park

If you're motoring around the Lone Star State in a big rig, park up at Alamo RV Park in San Antonio. A swimming pool, guest lounge, and Wi-Fi are just a few of the perks you'll enjoy here. Doggos get their own amenities, too, "pawticularly" the on-site dog park! Breed restrictions apply here, but the website doesn't specify what those restrictions are; call the park for more information.

#6. Austin East KOA

KOAs all across the country welcome doggos, and Austin East is no exception. Amenities include full hookups, cable TV, a heated pool, and a half-acre dog park. From here, you're just a bone's throw from popular attractions like Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park, the LBJ Presidential Library, and the Colorado/Walnut Greenbelt. Downtown San Antonio is just an hour and a half down I-35 from Austin East KOA.

#7. McKinney Falls State Park

Take your pick of more than 80 sites equipped with electric hookups at McKinney Falls State Park. Showers, restrooms, picnic tables, and fire pits come standard at McKinney Falls. Once you've set up camp, leash up and venture out to trek the 9-mile trail network. While you're here, don't miss the Upper and Lower Falls of Onion Creek. Just keep Sparky out of the water! McKinney Falls is just over an hour northeast of San Antonio.

#8. Pedernales Falls State Park

Wildlife watchers will fall head over paws in love with Pedernales Falls State Park, tucked away in Texas Hill Country just under two hours from the city. Amble through the park's butterfly garden, watch for birds at the bird blind. Or, hit the trails and cool off in the Pedernales River. Then set up shop at one of 69 campsites with electric and water hookups, showers, and restrooms

#9. Lost Maples State Natural Area

Searching for a dog-friendly campground near San Antonio that offers "un-fur-gettable" views? Mosey on over to Lost Maples in the fall to experience the changing leaves. Stargazing, geocaching, fishing, and hiking are just a few activities you and Rufus can enjoy here. Stay cozy at one of 30 electric and water sites complete with standard amenities, or hike to the primitive backcountry sites. Lost Maples is just over 100 miles outside of San Antonio.

#10. Garner State Park

There's no better place top off our list of dog-friendly campgrounds near San Antonio than Garner State Park, an hour and 40 minutes from downtown. More than 1,700 acres of serenity await you here. Float down the Frio, work up a pant on 16 miles of trails, or challenge your crew to a game of minigolf. The "pawssiblities" are endless!
