Described as an oasis of green in Oregon's high desert, Unity Lake State Recreation Site offers recreational activities in abundance. And with a peaceful, pet-friendly campground thrown into the mix, it's an excellent destination for any outdoor enthusiast who wants to take their four-legged friend camping.
At 39 acres in size, it may not be the largest park around, but there's still plenty of reason to visit this secluded nature refuge. While some visitors like to just sit back and take in the impressive water views, many others prefer to take advantage of the park's boat ramp to go water skiing or try their luck at some fishing. And if you feel like taking a day trip, the nearby mining town of Sumpter and Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area in the Blue Mountains are just a short drive away.
If you're planning on staying the night, Unity Lake State Recreation Site also boasts a seasonal campground which is open from April 1 to October 30 and offers 35 electrical sites with water. There are also two reservable cabins available, one of which is pet-friendly, as well as hiker/biker camping. Electrical sites cost $26 per night and a pet-friendly yurt will set you back $56 per night.
If you're camping with your pet, please note that dogs must be physically restrained at all times (leashes must be no longer than six feet) when not confined to a vehicle or tent. You'll also need to be responsible for cleaning up after your furry friend whenever necessary.
Apart from that, all that's left to do is enjoy your vacation. Unity Lake State Recreation Site offers a convenient and pleasant destination for anyone who loves getting out and about in the great outdoors. Make sure you check it out if you're ever planning a pet-friendly camping trip in eastern Oregon.
