Description

Vallecito Resort is a paw-fect spot for pups and people looking for a rustic Rocky Mountain getaway without sacrificing too many creature comforts. RV campers will find all mod-cons available to them, with full hookups including electricity, water, and even cable TV. Tent campers can avail of the on-site showers, laundry facilities, and grocery store. There’s also an outdoor hot tub! Two-legged family members will be well entertained by the play area, and if you need to let your furry friend run free, you’re in luck -- the resort has its own fenced-in dog run. Even the cabins are pet-friendly (with a $10 pet fee, a limit of two dogs per cabin, and unfortunately, some breed restrictions).

Vallecito’s location isn’t bad, either -- just a couple of miles away from Durango, and just a bone’s throw away from the fabulously beautiful Vallecito Lake. The sites are fringed by majestic, mature pines that provide plenty of shade, and the resort is at a low enough elevation that it doesn’t get too cold at night.

You and your buddy should have no trouble sniffing out something to do in the area around Vallecito! The area around the lake provides plenty of op-paw-tunities for outdoor recreation. Keen anglers will be glad to know that the lake is well-stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout, and pike. There’s a fish cleaning station at the resort, and you can cook your catch on one of the grills provided with each site. You’ll need to get a license, but the permit is easily obtained online.

Hound dog hikers won’t need to venture far to find their entertainment -- there are plenty of trails along the lake. The two-mile Creek Trail is an excellent option for those seeking a sedate yet scenic stroll, while four-pawed fitness freaks looking for a challenge will certainly find one on the four-mile out-and-back Lake Eileen Trail.

Cultured canines might get a kick out of taking the Tour of Carvings! Artists carved intriguing sculptures into the burnt remnants of trees around the lake after a devastating fire in 2008. Closer to home, you’ll find that the resort hosts all sorts of activities, including comedians, ventriloquists, and Friday pizza nights!

Wifi is available at Vallecito, but it can be spotty and is limited to an area around the tackle shop. Cellular reception is all but non-existent -- you’ll probably be able to check your emails, but that’s about it. Fires are permitted only in designated grills, and you’ll find drinking water available on-site. Remember to bring waste bags for your pupper, and have a furrific time!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
