Recreation meets history class at Indiana's Versailles State Park, a place where wars were fought and, even further back, amazing sea creatures once swam! Today, you won't find much of either, but what you will find is a beautiful lake surrounded by peaceful forests -- an area perfect for you and your pupper to unwind!
Over 220 campsites are dotted around the park, all of which welcome our barky buddies! Each lot comes with its own picnic table and fire ring, along with an on-site dump station. The restroom facilities are not the newest, but they are well-maintained. If you run into any issues, the park office is there to help, though most campers report that everything here is up to snuff!
To enter the property, you'll have to buy a parking permit which costs $7 per day. Campsites start at $15 per night and go all the way up to $36 depending on the hookup options you require coupled with the time of year that you happen to visit.
You won't run out of things to do here, whether you prefer trekking through the woods or clocking time out on the waves. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent at the park, or you can bring your own! If swimming in the lake isn't your thing, hop in the pool instead to beat the heat during summer months. You and your pooch will have endless hours of exploring to do at Versailles, as there are all kinds of forest trails that lead all around the lake. There's also an interpretive center to check out, and the nearby town of Versailles offers all kinds of shops and experiences for when you feel the need to be back in civilization again.
While staying at this state park, you must keep your pupper on-leash or crated at all times, and management asks that you not leave your pooch unattended at any time. As always, do your part to keep this place woofer-friendly by cleaning up any messes your furry pal leaves behind.
For a great camping trip at the lake, add Versailles State Park to your must-visit list!
