Viking Lake campground, located in Iowa, is a year-round location giving you an opportunity to explore the State Park whenever you'd like. Viking Lake State Park is one of the largest in Iowa and encompasses over 1,000 acres of land, much of which is undisturbed. This will give you and your pooch the perfect opportunity to explore the vast wildlife population including wild turkeys, beavers, ducks, deer, muskrats and all sorts of bird species to fill your ears with songs.
At the campground, you will find 114 campsites available to accommodate your stay. There are a variety of sites to choose from including tent-only sites, electric sites, buddy sites and sites with full-service hookups. Dump stations are available as well as washroom facilities and showers, making your stay more comfortable.
Dogs are permitted in Iowa State parks, but while in the park, you are asked to keep them on a leash no longer than six feet in length. Dogs are also not to be left alone on campsites or permitted to wander the campgrounds unattended.
The Viking Lake State Park has lots to offer its visitors. Within the park, you can find two picnic facilities, one equipped with a full kitchenette, available for rent daily. There are also a variety of trails for you and your pup to explore if you're up for a hike. Located close to the campground is a 5.5-mile trail that will lead you around the lake and through the park.
Not far from the campground is a restaurant by the beach, if you're looking to treat yourself. The beach is frequently used for swimming, boating, and all sorts of water activities. Fishing is popular in both the beach waters and in the various ponds within the State Park. The waters of the lake are filled with a variety of fish including sunfish, catfish, and bass, just to name a few.
