The staff at Water's Edge Motorcoach and RV Resort in Okeechobee, Florida know that few things in life are more relaxing than spending the day casting lines -- this is why they have tailored their campground for tourists who love fishing just as much as they do! The resort is situated on the edge of the Rim Canal and features a gazebo dubbed the "Chickee Hut" where guests can drop a line or just hang out. Thinking of bringing Fido along for the trip? You are more than welcome to! Just respect the pet policy by keeping them leashed and cleaned up after!
Just past the canal lies Lake Okeechobee, nicknamed "Florida's Inland Sea" since it is the largest freshwater lake in the state. The lake a paw-fect place to set sail on your pontoon or zoom about on your jetski. There are several nearby adventure companies that offer "swamp safaris" where you can speed through the bayou and spot wildlife such as the American alligator, turtles, and waterfowl. Cruising the swamp can work up quite an appetite -- afterward, get your fill of locally caught catfish, shrimp, and alligator at the Lightsey Fish Company & Seafood Restaurant.
Each RV site is neatly padded with brick and features a line of palm trees and tropical plants that provide some privacy from the neighboring sites. Daily rates include two guests and range from $40 to $75, depending on the time of visit and whether you choose a roadside, standard, deluxe, or premium location. Additional guests will tack on an additional $5 per person, with a maximum of 6. There are no restrooms or showers on the grounds, but this shouldn't be a problem since all sites include water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer hookups. Also included in the rate is access to the resort's swimming pool, bocce courts, boat ramp, dock, and garage (for those of you who BYOB -- bring your own boat!).
