Located less than 50 miles southwest of Dayton, Ohio, Whitewater Memorial State Park is the ideal camping destination for anyone who loves spending time on, in, or near the water. Covering 23,000 acres, it's Indiana's third-largest state park and offers a wide range of water-based recreational activities. Even better, it features a pet-friendly campground where you can stay a while with your canine pal.
Home to the 200-acre Whitewater Lake and with access to Brookville Reservoir, Whitewater Memorial State Park offers excellent boating and fishing. The man-made lake is perfect for flat-water boating, popular with swimmers in summer months, and allows anglers to target a wide range of fish species.
The park offers two boat ramps -- one on Whitewater Lake and the other on Brookville Reservoir -- as well as canoe, paddleboat and rowboat rental.
If you'd rather do some exploring on land, there's an extensive network of hiking trails and nine miles of horseback riding trails to navigate. Guided trail rides and sleigh rides are available, while picnic areas with shelters are provided if you want to sit down for a relaxing lunch.
The Whitewater Memorial State Park campground offers 236 electric sites and 45 non-electric sites, while primitive sites are also provided for horse camping. Entrance fees start from $7 for Indiana residents, while camping fees vary depending on the type of site you select.
Pets are welcome in the campground, but you'll need to make sure you follow all park rules for the duration of your stay. These include ensuring that your pooch is always leashed and controlled, cleaning up after them whenever necessary, and steering clear of those areas of the park where dogs aren't allowed.
Whitewater Memorial State Park offers a host of memorable outdoor experiences plus the chance to share them all with your canine pal -- what more could you want in a vacation destination?
