If you and your doggo are looking for a Fido-friendly Apache-Sitgreaves getaway, Winn Campground is a pawesome place to pitch your tent! Winn offers visitors a true wilderness experience -- you won’t find any RV hookups or showers. The campground is tucked away between the forks of the Little Colorado River, in the shadow of the White Mountains and in dense coniferous forest, making this an ideal camping spot for pups and people looking to escape from civilization. At an elevation of 8,500 feet and with so much shade, it’s easy to keep cool here even in the Arizona heat!  Many of the sites border a lush, wide-open meadow, a grrreat area for wildlife spotting. The 63 site campground can fill up quickly in peak season, so it’s best to make your reservation early!
Winn is near some excellent recreation options for keen anglers, nature lovers and hound-dog hikers. While the fishing here isn’t as famous as that at Big Lake, the Apache Reservoir is still well-stocked with all kinds of trout, and Big Lake itself is less than ten miles away. Winn is also in close proximity to the Mount Baldy trailheads. These two out-and-back routes are rated as moderately difficult, and run through wooded wonderland, past interesting rock formations, and up the mountain itself. There’s also a connector trail for those who’d like to combine the two 7-mile trails into a longer loop.
Wifi isn’t available at Winn Campground, and while some cellular networks have decent coverage out there, it’s still best to check with your provider before you go if you need to stay in constant contact. Fires are permitted, but only in designated rings. Drinking water is available on-site, so be sure to fill up those bottles if you’re heading off for a hike! Remember to bring waste bags for your pupper, and have a furrific vacation!
