Amherst Beaver Creek Reservation

A short, 5-minute drive from downtown, the Amherst Beaver Creek Reservation is a furrific spot to enjoy some time in nature with the entire family. Canine members are welcome here, too, so there's no need to leave Fido at home when you visit this pawsome park!

Comprising 65 acres of floodplains and mature woodlands, Amherst Beaver Creek may be one of the smallest sites in the Lorain County Metro Parks system, but it certainly does not disappoint. Two- and four-legged visitors alike will find lots of interesting activities to do and a variety of natural habitats to explore here. If your canine BFF is tagging along, a trek on the reservation's Beaver Creek Trail is highly recommended! Get some fresh air and exercise with Fido as you follow this 1.5-mile asphalt trail past a cattail marsh, into the valley, and through a pine grove. Be sure to pawse at the bridges and overlooks to admire the creek and enjoy the woofderful scenery. See if you can spot the frogs, turtles, mallards, and other wildlife that live along the creek bed. A blue heron might pop up occasionally as well. 

Since the reservation is pawpular among dog walkers, your pup might meet new friends during your walk. Keep your pooch on a 6-foot leash at all times even if they're friendly—it's against the rules to let them run loose! Remember to bring water to share, and waste bags, and always clean up after your furry buddy.

After you and Fido have completed the loop, grab a table at the picnic shelter to refuel with a packed lunch. Then stop by the soccer field to watch a game—there's usually one going on during soccer season. Other park amenities include a handicap accessible playground and a visitor's center.
