The Balto Dog Park is a no-frills spot where your pooch can enjoy some off-leash time in Dover. If Fido loves being in a natural environment, then this is the place to be! Located near the Dover City Beach, the Balto Dog Park is not your typical dog park with fenced runs. Instead of enclosures, this site has amenities that are not as common, but just as fun!
The dog park's main feature is a boardwalk that leads to a lake. Adventurous pups are more than welcome to dive off of it and go for a swim in the water! Visitors say that there's no way to get back up to the boardwalk, though, so be prepared to pull your pooch out when they're done dog paddling! After their swim, stop by the wash-down area to give your four-legged friend a good cleaning. The wash-down area is equipped with a solar-heated hose system, pawfect for dogs that tend to get chilly. Don't forget to bring a towel, too!
Note that the Balto Dog Park is not fenced, so keep a close eye on your pup or keep the leash on if they don't respond well to voice commands. Like all the other parks in the city, Balto provides easy access to the 9 miles of trails that meander throughout Dover Bay, as well as the Sandpoint-Dover Community Trail. The Dover Bay Trails will take you and your furry pal through forests and wetlands, while the Sandpoint-Dover Community Trail offers a convenient way to travel between the two communities. Keep in mind that Fido will have to leash up if you decide to hit the trails.
Whether you stick to the dog park or venture beyond, always carry waste bags and clean up after your canine companion, and be sure to have water on hand too. A barking good time awaits Fido at the Balto Dog Park!
