The Baltimore Animal Recreation Center, or BARC Park, is a fenced, off-leash dog area where you can take Fido to exercise, socialize, and play in a clean and safe environment. It provides two separate off-leash areas for large and small dogs alike, so there is no need to worry about your little pooch getting into conflict with the bigger pups at the location.
The center is part of Hannah More Park and features a 1.5-acre area for large dogs and a .75-acre park for small pets. The ground is mostly covered in grass although some of it has been replaced with patches of mulch. The BARC Park offers plenty of space for dogs to romp around freely and play with one another. There are baby pools provided in the summer as well as drinking water.
It is important to bring a towel if your pup is especially fond of the water and cannot resist jumping inside when it gets warm outside. To have access to the park, owners need to register with the local County Parks and Recreation Department and have their pets adequately immunized and licensed.
The park membership needs to be renewed each year, while the pups need to have current rabies shots and have their licenses in the county they reside before registering. You need to clean up after your dog and keep a leash with you at all times. The BARC Park provides waste bags, so there is no need to bring your own.
The BARC Park tends to get more crowded in the afternoon but is entirely free in the mornings, so depending on your availability, you can go for a relaxing stroll alongside your pooch in the first hours of the day, or a social gathering later in the evening. Give this location a try, and your pup will most certainly fall in love with the BARC Park (at Hannah More Park) in Reisterstown, Maryland.
