The Beaman Park Nature Center on Old Hickory Boulevard is a great place to start off your adventure. Here you'll find every thing you could need, including ample parking, restrooms, and trashcans. At the nature center itself, people have the opportunity to connect with nature, and learn about the local flora and fauna through free programming and displays. One of the main purposes of the center is to help visitors realize the importance of preserving nature for future generations. Leashed pups are welcome too!Â
Within the park, there are 3 trails totalling 5 miles that meander into the depths of the woods. There is parking available at the Nature Center Trailhead, Highland Trailhead, and Creekside Trailhead. The trails form a web, so you can create your own hike, making it as hard or as easy as you would like. These trails a popular all year round, featuring blooming wildflowers in the spring and a cool canopy of green leaves in the summer. Along your travels you'll come across creeks with cascades, interesting rock formations, and a variety of wildlife.Â
This park is well-loved among dogs and their humans, so you may have the chance to make some furry friends on your hike. Dogs are welcome as long as they stay on a leash no longer than 6 feet, and are picked up after at all times. Don't forget to bring plenty of drinking water for you and your dog, and follow Leave No Trace Principles.Â
