Best Friends Dog Park is a public dog park located in the Winnebago County Community Park in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In addition to the off-leash dog area, the 270-acre community park offers a variety of playgrounds, an archery range, a disc golf course, rugby fields, and fishing lakes. The dog park is located in the northeast part of the park and it is the only area in the community park that dogs are allowed to be in.
The Best Friends Dog Park is made up of nine acres of open space that is securely fenced and has a separate area for small dog breeds. The park’s terrain is varied, consisting of grassy, ungroomed areas as well as well-maintained, mowed sections. Tall trees and lush bushes are scattered throughout the off-leash dog park and provide plenty of shade for dogs and their owners. In addition to the above, there are picnic benches and paved walking trails within the dog park. Though the park is equipped with free dog waste bag dispensers and several trash cans by the entrance, make sure to bring some water and a bowl for your pooch as there are no drinking fountains in the off-leash area.
While not ideal, there is a porta potty by the entrance to the dog area which is convenient in case you spend the day at this spacious and wooded dog park. The park is also very close to the parking lot, which is rarely full during the weekdays. The dog park is open late and it is well-lit, which enables owners to bring their canines after work for their daily dose of leash-free exercise and socialization.
The Best Friends Dog Park is the largest public dog park within the city limits and definitely worth a visit. It is the perfect place for canine playdates, games of fetch or just casual strolls, sniffing and exploration.
