With views of the Zuni Mountains and the beautiful, rugged landscape of Northwestern New Mexico, Bluewater Lake State Park has 3,000 acres of room to roam and plenty of things to do, both on and off the water. Bluewater Lake State Park is also a great spot to enjoy nature. The area is home to 68 different species of birds who either migrate through annually or reside there year-round.
The lake has approximately 1,200 acres of surface area and is stocked with rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and catfish. Bluewater Lake is also one of the best spots for tiger muskie. There are a boat ramp and dock for non-motorized and motorized boating. And during winter, the park’s high altitude and location cause the lake to freeze over, making it a great destination for ice fishing.
The park’s campground has 149 sites in total, several with electric hookups. The park also offers a dump station, group sites, and has water available for your convenience. In addition, the Bluewater Lake State Park features a playground, spots to picnic, and a swimming beach.
In New Mexico, dogs on leashes no more than 10 feet long are allowed in most campgrounds and park areas. They must remain leashed or under physical control at all times, and can never be left alone. Do not bring unvaccinated dogs or those with aggressive tendencies. Your dog must be current on vaccines, and you should bring proof of current rabies.
If you bring your dog on your visit to Bluewater Lake State Park, bring waste bags and always pick up after your dog. Be respectful of other visitors and prevent your dog from being disruptive to others or to wildlife. If you’re in Northwestern New Mexico and you’re looking for a great place to fish or spend some time in the beautiful scenery, bring your family and furry companion to Bluewater Lake State Park.
