Bottomless Lakes State Park, only 14 miles southeast of Roswell, is home to a number of outdoor activity options. From non-motorized boating to enjoying the scenery and the wildlife, visitors to Bottomless Lakes State Park will find plenty to stay entertained.
With unique sinkholes up to 90 feet deep, visitors can even scuba dive down into the deeper bodies of water. The lakes are open to non-motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, and boarding, as well as swimming and fishing (November through March). Guests can rent pedal boats, paddle boards, and lifejackets through the park office between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
Lea Lake Day-Use Area at Bottomless Lakes State Park hosts a beach, playground, sand volleyball court, picnic shelters, and the historic Lea Lake Pavillion. There are outdoor showers and restrooms, subject to seasonal closures. The park offers four-and-a-half miles of trails, including accessible trails and a mountain bike trail.
The Lea Lake Campground has a total of 32 sites, 26 of which have water and electricity and six with full hookups. There are an RV dump station and restrooms with showers available. There is also the Lower Lakes Area, which has primitive campsites with vault toilets.
Pets are welcome in New Mexico state parks, but they have to remain leashed, even when in the water. For specific information about where pets are and are not allowed, contact the park office by phone during business hours. As with any public recreation area, bring waste bags and always pick up after your pet. Be respectful of park rules, local wildlife, and other guests. Never bring aggressive or unvaccinated dogs or allow your dog to become a nuisance.
