Description

In Southern Wisconsin, Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area is a popular day-use area offering a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Not far from Madison and Janesville, Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area has plenty to do on and off the water.

Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area has two reservoirs on a spring-fed creek, which total 95 surface acres. There is a boat launch at Beckman Lake; both lakes restrict motors to electric only. For swimmers, there is a 150-foot beach open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but no lifeguards are present. Pets are not allowed to be on the beach or in the swimming area.

The park has eight miles of trails for hiking, which have some of the best places to enjoy viewing a wide variety of wildlife in the natural forest, meadow, and aquatic habitats. If you hike with your dog, be prepared and bring plenty of water for yourself and your pet. Bring your own waste bags, and be responsible by cleaning up after your dog. Be respectful of posted signs where dogs may not be allowed.

During the winter months, the Browntown-Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area is open for cross-country skiing, though the trails are ungroomed. Snowshoeing, winter hiking, sleds, and snowmobiles are also allowed in specific spots around the park.

Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area is open all year-round from 6 AM to 11 PM. Wisconsin requires a vehicle admission sticker, which costs $8 for Wisconsin residents. Out of state vehicles pay a separate fee. Stickers can be purchased for daily or annual rates upon entrance or in advance.

Dogs are allowed in most Wisconsin campgrounds and state parks, and on trails and roads, but must be kept leashed or under physical control at all times. Leashes cannot be longer than eight feet. Do not let your dog be disruptive of local wildlife or become a nuisance.

If you are in Southern Wisconsin and looking for a great spot to take a walk with your pup and enjoy beautiful views of wildlife or the forest, come spend the day at Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area. You and your furry four-footed friend will be glad you did!
