Burke Lake Recreation Area encompasses a total area of 206 acres of beautiful parkland surrounded by trees, native and introduced prairie grasses, and wildflowers. The park is also home to several wildlife species. To get to the park just travel two miles east of Burke off US Highway 18. The nearest town to the park is Burke and it is located in Gregory County, South Dakota.
One of the main focal points of this park is the 25-acre lake that averages just about 8 feet in depth to make it a great place for everyone to enjoy water activities at the lake. You could quite easily go fishing on a small boat and then have a picnic in an idyllic setting surrounded by beautiful nature. Besides fishing and boating, some of the other activities that you could enjoy at the park include camping and hiking.
The amenities that the park has to offer to facilitate these activities and an overall great time at the park include vault toilets, drinking water, boat ramp, fishing dock, picnic shelter, campground, and campsites with electricity. The Burke Lake Recreation Area's 15 campsites are open to RV’s. If you have a dog, there is no need to leave them behind because they can gain admittance to this park at no extra cost. When you bring your dog to the park, just be aware that there are some standard South Dakota park rules that you must follow.
Some of the main rules with respect to your pooch include the following. First, you must always make sure that your dog is on a leash no more than 10 feet long. Additionally, you must always make sure that you maintain immediate control of your tail-wagger and that you don’t allow your dog to stray into buildings and designated swimming areas. Furthermore, your dog must be kept at least 200 feet away from other guests at the recreation area. If you decide to camp or tent at the park, you are allowed to bring your dog with you to these areas.
