Carlsbad Dog Park

The Carlsbad Dog Park is an off-leash dog park in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This dog park which is in the Bataan Recreation Area is bordered by a river and has a parking lot at one end. It is the only place in Carlsbad where dogs are permitted to go off-leash. Carlsbad born pups are not allowed, either on-leash or off, in any other public park, beach park, or recreation area within the city limits. 

When walking to the dog park, pet owners must take the shortest route available, be on the ground adjacent to the dog park only and not stray into the public park areas. It's hard being a dog in Carlsbad. The Carlsbad authorities do permit dogs on some trails and bike paths while on their leash. Pet parents are advised to make sure they are on the right track before setting out with their pup for a walk. 

Surprisingly enough, for such an unfriendly dog city, the dog park in Carlsbad is an extensive stretch of the riverbank which has been designated for use as an off-leash area. The area has been fenced securely to prevent any dog escaping and putting a paw on public parklands. There's no direct access to the water either, so no chance for a pup to accidentally leap into the river. 

The off-leash runs have combination surfacing of grass and dirt with a few trees here and there. There are some pieces of agility apparatus for the pups plus gazebos, benches, and mushroom-style stools where owners can park their butts. While using this dog park in Carlsbad, pet parents must be capable of restraining their dog should the need to arise. 

If a pet parent is unable to do this, the dog is classed as unattended and may be impounded. Leaving a poop un-scooped is not a good idea in Carlsbad either. Owners need to carry bags and remove all fecal trace of their pup ever being present in the dog park.
