One of the largest and most diverse wetland reservations in northeast Ohio, Columbia Reservation is a great place to spend a beautiful day outside with the whole family. Doggos are also welcome at this 409-acre site, so don't leave your four-legged members behind!
Active pups will be glad to know that there are miles of trails waiting to be explored at Columbia Reservation. Leash up for a snifftastic adventure that will take you and your furry buddy through wooded and open areas and past scenic waterways. Enjoy pawsome views of ponds, meadows, and marsh, and try to spot the various wildlife that call the reservation home. Some of the species that you and Fido might encounter at Columbia include deer, rabbits, raccoons, muskrats, and frogs. If you visit in early spring, there's a good chance that you'll see several spiny softshell turtles sunbathing on the sandy shoreline. Don't furget to stop by the replica of the 1812 blockhouse as well as the many overlooks along the trails, including an observation deck where you and your pooch can get a better look at Hitchcock Lake.
Note that while doggos are allowed on the paved asphalt trail year-round, other areas are off-limits to canine visitors seasonally to protect the reservation's sensitive wildlife. Be sure to follow the signs, and remember to observe good trail petiquette by always keeping your pooch on a leash and cleaning up after them. Bring clean-up bags, and water to share with your pup.
After tackling the trails, dig into a packed lunch at the picnic shelter near the children's playground. Or head to Sundae Funday's for some grub. This family-owned pizzeria and ice cream parlor is located right on the reservation and offers outdoor tables that you can share with your pup. If you and Fido visit Columbia during the summer months, you can also enjoy a movie in the outdoor theater on Saturday nights!
A furrific time awaits you and your canine pal at the Columbia Reservation!
