The Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park is a massive 1700-acre park located in the heart of northwestern Wyoming. It offers swimming, geocaching, and several other summertime activities. A small swimming pond is available all year round if you are looking to enjoy some fun in the sun. This pond is encircled with a sandy beach perfect for a sunny day spent on the beach.
The only time the pond tends to shut down is during the winter, so as long as the weather cooperating feel free to pack up the family and have a beach day! Canines are available on these sites provided they are on a leash at all times and do not leave any messes behind. Boating is available on this pond as well, provided you have an engineless craft such as a paddleboat or kayak.
If your preference is for dry land, there are nine miles of hiking trails within Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park. Many of these trails are paved concrete and are quite accessible to individuals of all ages. There are also two trails of a more challenging nature that will lead you to some spectacular views of the local flora. Many animals species roam this park as well, so make sure to keep your eyes out for special sightings.
Your dog may accompany you on these trails, provided they stay on a 6-foot leash or shorter. No doggie stations exist, so be sure to pack bags in case your canine leaves a mess. Looking to get some cycling in? Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park has recently finished construction on 2.8 miles of scenic cycling trails. These follow what were initially railroad tracks through cottonwood forests that line the shores of the North Platte River.
Canines are restricted from entering these trails except the wintertime when cycling is limited for the season. While no camping is offered at the Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park, multiple picnic pavilions can be reserved up to six months in advance. These structures are directly next to bathroom facilities, and all contain grill facilities so you can have a cookout. Canines are strictly forbidden from entering picnic pavilions or any other indoor structures.
