Fairmont, West Virginia is home to many parks that happen to be dog-friendly. Morris Park is one of those located at right off of Pleasant Valley Road. Morris Park is accessible year round due to its winter season activities that draw locals and tourists in for a visit. The park itself is an extremely wooded area perfect for those who prefer to be in the shade.Â
Come here to escape hot, sunny days while still being able to hang around outside. Morris Park boasts about 112 acres of land, so there’s tons of room for dog-related activities. Within all that space, there’s also a paved loop frequented by walkers to take in all the nature.Â
The paved trail is about 1.3 miles for you and your pup to watch the different types of birds fly by and checking out the trees. Fall is probably the perfect time to visit so dogs can play in the leaves while you enjoy the changing foliage colors. When you’re not enjoying Morris Park’s nature walk, it has many other amenities for you to enjoy.Â
There are two large group pavilions, tennis courts, a playground, basketball courts, and bathrooms. Morris Park is most known for its disk golf offering. The park is home to two disk golf courses that’s popular among locals. In the winter months between Thanksgiving and the end of December, the park hosts its annual Celebration of Lights event which is an animated holiday light display.Â
If allowed, this would be an excellent opportunity to bring your dog along for a scenic walk. Morris Park rules are consistent with the rest of Marion County rules. The most important is that you may not allow your dog off a leash. So even though there’s tons of space for the pup to enjoy, please keep him nearby at all times.
