Encompassing over 540 acres, Forest Park is the third-largest park in Queens. It offers playgrounds, sporting fields, hiking trails, and a beautiful oak forest, and it's also home to a pawpular dog park known as the Forest Park Barking Lot.
Located at the Overlook at the eastern end of Forest Park, and sometimes also known as Overlook Dog Park, the Barking Lot offers 9,000 square feet of space for doggos looking to enjoy some off-leash play. There are separate areas for large and small dogs, so pint-sized pups don't need to worry about getting squashed by their larger counterparts.
The park's surface is largely dirt, so be warned that it can get a little muddy at times. There's shade available to keep the hot sun at bay, plus benches when pet parents want to sit back and relax while their pups enjoy some socializing.
Water is provided during the warmer months, so take note that you may need to bring your own water to keep your pup hydrated. Poop bags and trash cans are also provided, so please be a responsible pet parent and clean up after your pet whenever necessary. As for yourself, if you need a bathroom break you'll find restrooms nearby at Sobelsohn Playground.
Entry to this pawsome dog park is free, but this pup playground is also supported by the Forest Park Barking Lot Dog Park 501(c)(3) non-profit. Set up in 2015, this group gladly accepts donations to help fund park improvements and maintenance as well as promote responsible pet care.
If you can stay on top of these simple but important responsibilities, there's nothing to stop you and your pupper enjoying a great day out in the Forest Park Barking Lot!
