Forest Park Dog Run

Forest Park Dog Run is located in the Queens area of New York City, New York. One of several New York City parks with off-leash dog areas, this beautifully landscaped facility is pleased to offer two fully fenced runs where dogs can run, roughhouse, and play to their heart's content, and all without the need for a leash. 

Since small, elderly, and timid dogs often prefer a space of their own, one enclosure has been reserved for their use. Here, these dogs can enjoy off-leash activity and ample socialization with dogs more suited to their size, personality, and age. To ensure the safety of all dogs enjoying the play spaces, it is mandatory for owners to have a lead with them at all times. 

When not making use of the designated off-leash areas, all dogs are to remain on a leash shorter than six feet in length. In accordance with New York state law, dogs are not permitted to enter the following properties: beaches, zoos, playgrounds, fountains, or sports fields. 

Forest Park Dog Run is maintained by a group of community volunteers with a passion for providing a safe space where dogs can engage in off-leash play. Though there is no fee for entrance, donations are gratefully accepted and earmarked for regular park maintenance and future improvements. 

The runs are complete with water access to keep all dogs well-hydrated as well as poop bags. Owners are responsible for all pet waste removal. The dog play areas are lined primarily with dirt. Seating is available around the perimeter of the park. It is unknown if there are bathrooms on the grounds. 

Visitors to this park space do note that there is a slight gap in the fencing near to the gate. Small dogs may be able to escape via this portal. Care must be taken to vigilantly supervise all dogs at all times. New York state legislation does require that all dogs visiting public playgrounds have a current rabies vaccination and city dog license. 

Proof of both must be carried by owners and furnished if requested by an Animal Control officer. Failing to provide the required documentation results in a fine.
