Hells Gate State Park

The Hells Gate State Park is spread over 960 acres of land in Nez Perce County, Idaho. This state park was established in 1973 and is governed by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. To access the park, visitors should head to the north-central part of Idaho, about four miles south of Lewiston city, the county seat of Nez Perce County. The park is on Snake River Avenue. 

There are several unique features that await visitors in this Idaho state park, such as the infamous gateway to Hells Canyon which is the deepest river gorge on the continent. There are several jet boat excursions that leave from the Hells Gate State Park docks into the canyon on a regular basis. The other special feature of the park is that it is the gateway to Lewis and Clark country. The Discovery Center at the park features educational displays, and media about the journey of Lewis and Clark through Idaho. The discovery center also features two acres of an outdoor interpretive center along the banks of the Snake River. While your pup can't learn about this iconic journey inside the building, he can certainly enjoy all the outdoor space this puptastic park has to offer.

Recreational activities here include swimming, fishing, camping, boating, guided nature walks, hiking, jet boat rides, horseback riding, mountain biking, and interpretive programs. The park has several amenities that allow visitors to enjoy these recreational activities. Some of the facilities include a group shelter, a camp store, various campsites and cabins, trails, picnic sites, a public boat launch, playground, marina, boat rentals, beach, and volleyball area. 

Dogs are allowed into Hells Gate State Park, although like other Idaho state parks, some basic rules regarding dogs must be followed. For example, all dogs must be kept on a leas, and dog owners are expected to always clean up after their dog. Bringing clean up bags is a must. Also, this park observes a pack it in, pack it out rule, so be sure to leave this woofderful green space as gorgeous as you found it!
