The winter section is covered with small stones instead of the grass that the other two parts are covered with, this prevents the area from turning to mud during the fall and winter months. In the pebbled side, there is also an agility course. The agility course is made up of three pieces and makes for a good time for canines that enjoy the obstacles. The other two areas are grass and also fully fenced in.
The Hondo Dog Park has seating in the form of bright red benches along the fence line. This park also has water available in the form of a waterspout. Remember to bring your water bowl. This park was founded and operated by the Hillsboro Dog Association. You can find ways you can contribute to the cleanliness and features of this park.
The grass areas are closed each Monday and Thursday morning to allow the grass to recover and let the maintenance team mow the lawn. There is a loop around the outer edge of the large canine section. This section allows you to walk the path while your canine socializes and gets some exercise themselves. Six times around the track equals a mile. This park does have restrooms available outside the fenced area.
There are also pavilions with picnic tables underneath located around the park, but none of these are available inside the fenced area. Overall, the Hondo Dog Park makes for an excellent place for a local to socialize their canine and get some exercise. Travelers or non-locals will likely find better options in their neighborhoods or elsewhere along their travel route.
