Hooff's Run Off Leash Dog Area

Located to the east of Commonwealth in Alexandria, Virginia across the street from Greenway park sits Hooff’s Run Off-Leash Dog Area. The whole area is about 8,718 square feet of open grass and no fences. This park is a bit larger than a football field and approximately the size of half a city block. There are markers to show you where the borders of the park are. 

It is a quaint little city neighborhood dog park that is easy to get to and has ample parking. There are both street and lighted walking paths with access from multiple points off of Commonwealth Street, making this park totally accessible to people wherever you happen to be coming from. This nice grass area allows for dogs to run and play but remember there are no fences so they must be voice controlled.

Dogs are allowed off their leash, as long as they stay within the boundaries of the park. Hooff’s Run Off-Leash Dog Area is governed by rules set up for all dog parks in Alexandria. All dogs should be vaccinated and licensed. Also, there should be only three dogs per person. Children under the age of 16 should not be in unleashed areas without an adult present. Also, no food is allowed within the off-leash area. Pet owners must remain in charge of their pets at all times.

At Hooff’s Run Off-Leash Dog Area, there is little to no shade, a trash can, and some seating. Greenpark is across the street with basketball courts, a playground, and seating. Hooff’s is a nice area to go play catch with your dog and enjoy a city park for the day. It is nothing fancy, but it is ideal if you live in walking area to get your dog exercised and socialized with other dogs. It's also really nice that the whole area is a grass field. Overall, this park serves a good purpose in this Alexandria neighborhood for per owner’s and their furry friends.
