Horizon Happy Hounds Dog Park is a highly-rated public dog park located in the 492-acre Horizons Park in Germanton, North Carolina. This beautiful, wooded, and amenity-laden park is just 20 minutes away by car from the downtown area. It is a great location to spend the day with the entire family as, in addition to the dog park, there are plenty of playgrounds, sports fields and ball courts, a disc golf course, and picnic shelters.
The Horizons Happy Hounds Dog Park was opened in July 2007 and has since become a very popular place for the dog owners in the community. The 2.65-acre dog park consists of an open, securely fenced area that is divided into two parts. There is a large, off-leash area that accommodates big dog breeds (above 25 lbs) and another 0.40-acre area that is great for small dogs with plenty of energy.Â
The dog park is equipped with water fountains for both people and their four-legged companions and plenty of benches scattered throughout the park, which makes keeping your dog in sight during leash-free playtime that much more comfortable. There are also trash cans and dog waste bag dispensers that enable owners to clean up after their pooches and keep this park pristine and poop-free.
In addition to the above, this park is very well-maintained and its patrons are said to be incredibly friendly and welcoming with well-behaved dogs. The only downside is that the layout of the dog park is quite simple, lacking trees and shade so make sure to keep that in mind during the warmer seasons. However, there is plenty of shade right outside the off-leash area in the park (as well as restrooms), where dogs can accompany their owners on walking trails as long as they are leashed. Make sure to visit this beautiful, grassy dog park for some canine socialization and exercise.
