Description
Ocracoke Island is an island destination in Ocracoke, North Carolina, accessed by ferry or plane only. This picturesque oasis offers many activities for Fido and his family to enjoy. Ocracoke Island's coastal regions are dog-friendly; however, dogs are required to remain on a lead of no more than 6 feet in length when not taking a dip in the water.

Campground facilities are offered throughout the island. There are also more traditional accommodations available in the form of hotels, cottages, and cabins. Many are pet-friendly. Bathroom facilities are available for public use throughout this island paradise but it is recommended that owners carry bottled water and a vessel suitable for drinking with them as not all areas offer access to a fresh water supply.

There is much to see and do on Ocracoke Island. From walking trails to water sports, shopping, restaurants, and more, Fido and his family will never want for things to do. Many area restaurants permit dogs in their patio areas. Visitors cite Dajio, SmacNally's, the Jolly Roger, Ocracoke Coffee Company, and the Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar among their favorite dog-friendly eateries.

Ocracoke Island enjoys moderate weather most of the year. However, during the summer months, the beach regions can become extremely hot. During warmer temperatures, dogs may experience discomfort and even heat stroke. For this reason, owners are encouraged to exercise caution and carefully observe weather reports before bringing Fido along on a beach excursion.

In certain areas of the local villages, dogs are allowed to enjoy off-leash time. However, if your dog lacks a solid recall, it is best to keep him on a lead. In addition to this, owners should carry a leash with them at all times in case of an emergency. It is required that all owners visiting Ocracoke Island carry poop bags with them. Owners are mandated by law to pick up and properly dispose of all canine waste materials in a prompt fashion.

No specific rules govern a canine visit to Ocracoke Island; however, it is recommended that all dogs be current on vaccinations. In addition to this, it is also advisable for dogs to bear the appropriate required state license tag on their collars. For an unforgettable vacation, plan a trip to Ocracoke Island!
