What could be better than spending time with your pup on the Oregon Coast? Humbug Mountain State Park lets you hang out with your pal while enjoying puptacular scenery. Like the name suggests, Humbug Mountain is the star of the park. Rising 1,756 feet into the sky, this mountain and surrounding forested hills protect the area from cool sea breezes, so the area has some of the warmest temperature on the coast. Â
If your pup wants to hit the trails, this park has some furrific options. With 12 varieties of ferns, the Fern Trail is aptly named. Your pooch will love wandering down this magical path. The Day Use Trail is also worth checking out. It’s the steepest trail in the park, so be prepared for a climb. Keep your eyes open for a few 100 foot waterfalls. If hiking to the summit is your dog’s goal, hit the Humbug Mountain Trail. After a mile, the trail splits. Choose either route; both lead to the top.Â
For dogs that would rather play in the sand than hike, there is a short trail that leads to a picturesque sandy beach. Your pooch can splash in the waves or fetch a piece of driftwood. Take a walk along the surf and watch for sea life or settle in and watch the sunset.
Chances are your pup will love this park so much the will want to stay an extra day. It’s a good thing the park also has a campground! There are dozens of sites for tents and RVs, so no matter how you are ruffing it, you’ll find a spot. Hot showers, restrooms, and drinking water can all be found at this pawsome campground. While visiting, be sure to carry some clean up bags and always pick up after your pooch.
No bones about it, this park will make your pup’s tail
wag!
