Huntington PetSafe Dog Park is a public dog park located at the Ritter Park in Huntington, West Virginia. In addition to the dog park, the 75-acre city park features limestone paved walking paths for walking, biking, and dog walking as well as a beautiful rose garden. The dog park, which opened in 2012, has become a favorite among dog owners living in the area for its size and featured amenities.
It can be easily found at the park thanks to the large, colorful, bone-shaped sign at the entrance. The dog park is securely-fenced with a tall fence and double-gated which helps minimize the chance of pooches slipping out as other patrons enter the park. It has two off-leash areas for both small and large dogs to enjoy and play in. The dog park offers three-and-a-half acres of grassy land that is well maintained and beautifully landscaped.
Since there are hills, slopes, and dips that dogs can run up and down on the Huntington PetSafe Dog Park is the perfect place for dogs to get their daily dose of leash-free exercise. Plus, owners with extra active dogs can train them using the agility equipment that is available at the dog park.
It includes an agility ramp, a tunnel, some poles, and hoops. The park's terrain is mostly made up of grass, though there are a few woodchip covered areas as well. Either way, having a towel in the car may be a good idea in case it rains. Free dog waste bag dispensers and well-placed trash cans can also be found at the park and help keep it clean and poop-free.
There are paved walking paths that run throughout the off-leash areas which allow owners to keep their shoes clean while they walk and watch their canine companions make new friends and exercise. However, there are plenty of benches scattered throughout the park as well that owners can sit back and relax on while their dogs do the running and chasing.
