Nothing beats going on a road trip with your four-legged pal. But when you've been driving down the open road for hours on end, a dog-friendly rest stop is definitely a welcome sight! If you and Fido are traveling eastward along Interstate 40 in northwestern AZ, pull into the Haviland Rest Area Eastbound near Kingman to take a break and move your legs.
As soon as you and your pooch hop out of the car, you'll find a well-maintained facility equipped with various amenities for weary travelers, including clean restrooms, ramadas, and vending machines. There is also a designated exercise area for canine visitors, but going off-leash is a no-no; all pups must remain leashed at all times. And should Fido make a mess, a pet waste station with a mutt mitt dispenser is within easy reach. Everyone is expected to do their part in keeping this rest area clean, even if there are caretakers on-site for most of the day!
Since this is the desert and some parts of the site are out in the open, check the ground regularly to make sure it's not too hot for your pooch's paws. Always have water on hand for your canine companion as well. If you're running low, drinking fountains are available to fill those water bottles up. Woofderful desert and mountain views make this rest stop even more enjoyable as you and Fido are strolling around, but always stay alert as poisonous snakes and insects are known to live here.
If you and your pup need to eat, covered picnic tables provide comfortable spots to sit and dig into a packed lunch. Visitors report that Haviland is well-lit at night, making it a pawfect place to stop any time of the day.
After spending some time at the Haviland Rest Area Eastbound, you and your pup will be ready to hit the road again!
