I-40 Exit 267mm W, Rest Stop

Adventurous canines traveling on Interstate 40 near Buffalo Valley are furtunate, as the I-40 Smith County Welcome Center is a pawfect spot for a mid-journey break!

Located on a bend of the Caney Fork River between Nashville and Knoxville, this rest area sits on the westbound side of the highway, but can be easily reached by traffic on both sides. If you and Fido are coming from an eastbound lane, simply exit at mile marker 267 and drive under I-40 to get to the other side. Once you reach the site, you'll find a puptastic rest stop that's open and staffed 24/7, and equipped with various amenities to accommodate weary travelers, including restrooms with ADA accessible stalls and baby changing stations.

Parking is plentiful, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a spot. Grab a couple of doggie waste bags before you step out of the car, and lead your pooch to the pet exercise area so they can go to the bathroom. Afterwards, go for a leashed stroll around the site to get all the wiggles out. Take advantage of the walking trail, open grassy areas, and sloped sections to let your pup burn off their pent-up energy. 

Picnic tables are scattered around the rest area, providing several places to sit and share a packed lunch with your four-legged pal. Don't furget to stop by the vending machines to purchase snacks for the drive ahead. Visitors say they even have dog treats! Pick up some brochures and coupons from the center, and take an obligatory tourist photo at the Tennessee sign before you hit the road again.
