The Independence Dog Park is an off-leash dog park in Independence, Oregon. There is street parking for vehicles right by the dog park. The Independence community got together to make this dog park a reality and continue to raise funds for its improvements as well as accepting donations of funds or equipment. This dog park in Independence is a two-acre piece of land which is bordered by the Willamette River.
While there isn't any direct access from the dog park to the river, pups can be walked on-leash along the riverside trail and take a dip too. There are two off-leash compounds at this dog park which are size regulated. Both have a mixed grass and wood chipping surface and are fenced with chain-link. The amenities at the dog park are on the increase all the time as new funding becomes available.
After starting with nothing, the park now boasts paved areas with dog-friendly water fountains, agility apparatus and seating for pet parents plus a portaloo cabin. While there are no fees payable or membership required to us the Independence dog park, chipping in and giving a helping hand with maintenance is always appreciated. Even if a pet owner does no more than make sure they collect all their pooches poop, it all helps towards keeping this great community facility open.
Supervising their dogs when off-leash is also a must for pet parents too as it's not neighborly for any dog to show its aggressive side to another fur buddy in the park. If such a thing should occur, an owner needs to take their dog from the off-leash area until its learned more reasonable behavior. The Independence dog park is not short of volunteers, but a few more to assist in monitoring the dog park for rule breakers or lazy poop scooping handlers, wouldn't go amiss.
