Description

As the very first dog park in Los Angeles, the Laurel Canyon Dog Park boasts 3 acres of open space for dogs to frolic, socialize, and run in the Hollywood Hills/Studio City area. Surrounded by rolling hills dotted with houses seemingly thumbtacked amid the chaparral, the views from the park are lovely. Although the pups couldn't care less about the view, it does provide some distraction for the human guardians to enjoy. Because of its location in Laurel Canyon, there may also be sightings of celebrities exercising their fur-babies, so keep an eye out for them! Occasionally a carload of dogs arrives with its professional dog-walker, adding to the mayhem.

There is sunshine aplenty in Laurel Canyon, and this park is no exception. Perched at the top of Mulholland Drive, the setting is wilderness desert. The surface is sand, which can become dusty when the wind and romping dogs kick it up. When it rains, and around the water hose and bowls, there's mud, so bring a towel to wipe down your pooch before heading home. Sunglasses and a hat are good ideas as well. A small pergola with  benches provides some shelter, as do a few small trees along the perimeter of the fence.

Besides providing water, waste scoopers and trash cans, the park features a long ramp from the parking lot below to the gate, allowing access for older dogs and wheelchairs. A small children's play area sits adjacent to the fence for the human kiddos' fun. A puppers' kiddie pool adds to the canine fun inside!

Some cautions: rattlesnakes and coyotes may be around during the early morning and evening hours, so keep a watch during these times. Flea and tick prevention medication is also recommended, as these mini biters thrive in the hot desert conditions.

Whether you live in LA, or are visiting, the Laurel Canyon Dog Park is a great place to socialize your pup and provide an opportunity for some free-wheeling exercise!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
