McKinley Park Off Leash Dog Area

The McKinley Park Off-Leash Dog Area is located in the east side of the city of Tacoma Washington within McKinley Park. McKinley Off-Leash Dog Area offers no enclosed spaces where dogs can enjoy off-leash play; however, the park has allotted portions of its 26.71-acre property for dogs to freely roam with their owners. 

With seven acres of property to explore off-lead, dogs are sure to get in a great workout with their families. Comprised largely of wooded trails, it is important to note that none of the property is fenced. Dogs who are known to wander or who lack a solid recall should remain on a lead at this beautiful, naturally landscaped property.

The McKinley Park Off-Leash Dog Area is a public play space, and park officials are pleased to invite all pooches and their favorite pals, both human and canine, to enjoy their grounds free of charge. However, it has been noted that due to "wetlands of local significance" this park may have or is in the process of closing to the public. 

Wildlife inhabits the wetlands, and the presence of dog traffic can cause an unhealthy disturbance to their well-being and habitat. Since the status of this park is unknown, it is best for owners to contact McKinley Park directly to see if dogs are still able to navigate the property with their families as in previous years. A natural space with no officially fenced dog runs, McKinley Park offers no amenities on the grounds for dogs. 

With this in mind, owners should come prepared with all of the necessary items for a great day at the park including bottled water, a dog dish, lawn chairs, and poop bags. Poop bags are not provided; however, park officials do appreciate all owner assistance in keeping McKinley Park a clean and attractive space for all to enjoy. Washington law does mandate that all owners clean up after their pets.

There are no officially posted rules regarding the use of McKinley Park Off-Leash Dog Area. To ensure all dogs are protected against the threat of disease, up to date vaccinations are recommended.
