Description

Merrick State Park is an excellent place to camp with your dog. This dog-friendly park welcomes dogs that have current vaccinations and license documentation and tags. You need to show proof of vaccinations and license at check-in and registration for the campgrounds. This can be taken care of at the park office.

Leashes need to measure six feet or shorter for your dog. Pet parents need to keep their dogs by their side for safety reasons. Dogs are not allowed in buildings, playgrounds or cross-country skiing trails. Pet restrictions are subject to change so make sure you check with the park office for current guidelines.

The Merrick State Park is beautiful and a great place to camp with your dog. Remember to bring along necessities that will keep your dog comfortable and happy. Typical items to bring are fresh water, food, treats, bowls, leashes, toys, doggie poop bags, medication and a first-aid kit.

You need to keep your dog quiet during the nighttime hours, so they don’t disturb other campers in the Merrick State Park. You also need to accommodate other campers by keeping your dog on a leash and away from those that are scared of dogs. Cleaning up dog waste is required in the campgrounds and throughout the park.

Make sure you carry plenty of doggie poop bags with you and pack enough that will exceed the number of days you will be visiting the park. Overall, this is a beautiful state park that welcomes pet parents to bring along their dog for a camping adventure. Pet owners can walk their dog on a leash in the woods, but they must stay away from marked hiking trails.

Remove your dog from any situation that involves aggression from your dog or wildlife in the Merrick State Park. Dogs that like to chase wildlife need to be removed from the specific area where they encounter wildlife to assure the safety of both animals.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
