The Morningside Nature Preserve is a beautiful 33-acre park in Atlanta that’s home to about two miles of trails. The park is also famous for its unofficial dog beach, which local pups love! Dogs are welcome to join you in this pawesome park on-leash.
Parking for Morningside Nature Preserve is available near the park’s entrance on Lenox Road. You can also reach the park on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit System. The park’s trail begins right by the Lenox Road entrance. The first part of the trail takes you through a wide-open field. After that, you’ll descend a wooden staircase and enter a beautiful forest filled with native trees. Then, you’ll go through another large meadow that's filled with kudzu grass.
After walking for about 0.5 miles, you’ll reach the South Fork Peachtree Creek, where you’ll find the park’s dog beach. Your pup will have a great time running around on the sandy shore and splashing in the creek’s cool water! Be sure to bring a towel so you can clean up your pup after they’re finishing swimming.
Once your dog is done playing in the water, you can continue on the trail if you’d like. The next part of the trail takes you on a scenic bridge over to the western side of the preserve. This side of the park is home to a network of trails that take you through the forest, along ridges, and by South Fork Peachtree Creek. As you’re walking, keep your eyes peeled for the park’s native wildlife, including foxes, beavers, raccoons, turtles, and a wide variety of waterfowl.
