Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint

On the stunning Oregon Coast, just a few miles south of Newport, Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint is a beautiful place to make a stop along Highway 101. With four different spots to pull off and enjoy the views, you’ll be glad you visited Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint. The northernmost pull-off spot is unnamed but is situated right next to Gwynn Creek. 

There is a small, quiet, and isolated beach spot that also offers plenty of grass for picnicking. The next pull-off spot is Neptune. This area has benches situated up on the cliff above the beach, which offers spectacular views of Cummins Creek, as well as the sand and surf. From here, you may even get to see whales during their migration along the Oregon Coast. 

With the creek so close, you may spot all kinds of wildlife, including seabirds, sea lions, and even deer. If you take a walk along the creek, you may find some agates. During low tide, head south along the beach and explore the natural tidepools and a cave. The next pull-off along the highway is Strawberry Hill. This spot has steps leading down to the sandy beach and excellent tide pools. 

Harbor seals often sun here on clear days. The last spot along the highway is Bob Creek. Here, you can access the sandy beach and hunt for agates. Any of these spots provide great opportunities for a nice walk, play time in the sand, picnic, or even go fishing. Bring your pup and go for a walk or play on the beach, just keep your dog on a leash. Bring waste bags and clean up pet waste. 

Be respectful of park rules and other guests. Don’t bring aggressive dogs or those who may bother others or the local wildlife. Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint is open year-round for day use.
