If your doggo is seeking some adventure in their life, plan a trip to the Obed Wild and Scenic River. This massive untouched parcel of land surrounds the mighty Obed River. Here your doggo will be treated to gorgeous views of cliffs, thick forests, and a puptacular gorge.
Of course, the Obed River is the star of the show in this park. Along with its two tributaries, Daddy’s Creek and Clear Creek, it is one of the premier whitewater rafting destinations in the eastern United States. When the water is high, this river has some gnarly rapids. If you plan on running the river, it’s probably best to leave your pal behind with another member of your pawty.Â
Your pooch will be glad to know there are over 20 miles of trails that wander through the area. If you’re short on time or energy, follow the Overlook Trail. Stroll along this flat trail until you reach the view point for the impressive Clear Creek Gorge. The Lilly Bluff Overlook and Emory River Nature Trail are also quick options. For some serious hiking, hit Devil’s Breakfast Table-Rock Creek Trail. At 14.2 miles, it’s quite a trek. If your pal doesn't want to hike the entire thing, just follow the trail until they are ready to turn back.Â
The thick forests and the swift river create an ideal habitat for many critters. While hiking with your doggo, watch for raccoons, deer, beavers, rabbits, and skunks. Who knows, you may even see an otter pop in and out of the river.
Remember to carry some clean up bags and always pick up after your pet. Make sure the only thing you leave behind in this pristine wilderness is foot prints and paw prints. And don’t forget to fill up your water bottles before beginning your hike. This park has everything you and your pup could want and more. Be sure to stop and see it for yourself!
