Description

What could be greater than enjoying panoramic views of the Colorado Springs with your beloved pet? Surrounded by the city on all sides, this 700-acre land mass features the best hiking you can find in Colorado Springs. While most of the park does require a leash, this park offers not only off leash trails, but also an off leash dog park. It’s fully fenced in and is a great play area with packed dirt as a floor surface. However, there is little to no shade in the off-leash area. Dogs are also allowed on the trails on-leash.

Palmer Park in Colorado Springs includes nice picnic areas, restrooms, hiking trails, a horse stable, riding, and hiking trails. One of the most favorite trails leading out from Palmer Park is the Templeton Trail. This trail will take you and your pup through the scenic views of some amazing red stone mountains. The trailhead begins and ends at an area which is named the Yucca Flats. There is also a beautiful overlook of the Colorado Springs here. The off-leash area is located at the top of the Mesa. Bring your camera along so you can get some great shots of you and your dog! The scenery here is amazing.

This park contains trails good for both amateur and experienced hikers. The rock formations and trails all throughout the hiking paths can leave you quite breathless, whether due to exercise or astonishment. You will also find these bluffs to be a hotspot for avid mountain bikers. These trails are also acceptable to take your dogs for a walk on, just be wary of the riders as they do have the right of way.

Since this is a high volume area that is hiked and traveled by many, the park asks that you always do your part and clean up after yourself and your dog. Palmer Park is great for an all-day visit full of adventure and exploring. For the safety of others, your dog should be licensed and vaccinated. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic views with your four-legged friend. You will make memories here that will last a lifetime.

There are a lot of dog-friendly areas in the United States, but there is only one in Colorado Springs that gives you great views of the Yucca Flats and the Springs. If you live in the area or are on vacation in Colorado, this is definitely a park you should bring your dog.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
