Just south of San Francisco’s Parkside District is a canine hangout where pooches of all shapes and sizes frequently visit to stretch their legs. Whether you have a high-energy pup or a dog who prefers to keep to themself, they’ll have a barking good time at the Pine Lake Park Dog Play Area!
Located near the border shared by Pine Lake Park and the Sigmund Stern Recreation Grove, the Pine Lake Park Dog Play Area is a wide open grassy field where four-legged visitors are welcome to romp and explore without a leash. There is no separate section for small dogs, but the area is big enough for everyone to avoid getting under each other’s paws. There is also no fence and only tall trees line most of the perimeter, so pet parents will want to make sure their furry pal has good recall and keep an eye on them at all times.
Also referred to as the Sigmund Stern Grove Dog Park as Stern Grove connects to Pine Lake, the Pine Lake Park Dog Play Area is a no-frills dog park, with its main draw being its size and woodsy vibe. There are drinking fountains for canines and humans, as well as covered and non-covered seating for the pet parents throughout. It is unclear whether waste bags are provided, so be sure to bring your own.
If your furry friend still has energy to burn after their off-leash romp, take them for a leashed walk around the main park. Pine Lake Park is home to a meadow, eucalyptus grove, and Pine Lake, one of only three natural freshwater lakes left in San Francisco. You can also head to adjacent Stern Grove, where leashed pups are allowed in the West Meadow.
For quality time with your pooch, make your way to the Pine Lake Park Dog Play Area!
