Roan Mountain State Park can be found at the base of the mountain that bears the same name. The park encompasses more than 2,000 total acres, most of which is covered in dense hardwood forests and rocky mountainous ridges. Containing several rivers, wildflower blooms, and a public pool, Roan Mountain State Park is an excellent area from which guests can get a taste of everything.
Overnight guests to Roan Mountain State Park can choose from 107 different campsites. All of these come standard with a grill, fire ring, and picnic table, and are located immediately adjacent to hot showers and public restrooms. Eighty-seven of these campsites are set up for recreational vehicles as well, with concrete parking pads and hookups for both electricity and water.Â
There is a dumping station for these vehicles, which can be found at the entrance to the Roan Mountain State Park. Group campsites are also offered here for an additional fee and can fit up to twenty-five total guests. Group campers should be warned that these are mostly primitive sites, so you'll have to walk to get your water.Â
Complimentary wireless internet access comes included in camping rates, so you'll be able to stay connected throughout your trip. As of 2018, guests are banned from bringing in firewood as they can carry unwanted pests. Dogs are welcome on these campsites provided they stay on some sort of restraint throughout the evening.Â
Guests are to keep their pets out of all indoor structures. Roan Mountain State Park has an Olympic-size swimming pool that opens up for guests during the warmer months. These facilities are regularly staffed with lifeguards, and also includes a children's wading pool.Â
Additional amenities provided are locker rooms with bathroom and shower facilities, and a concession stand where you can buy everything from backup swim trunks to sunscreen. If you have a dog along with you, they'll have to stay outside if you're looking to take a dip.
