This dog area also does not consist of any dirt or grass. The entire fenced off-leash section is covered in concrete, like a sidewalk. This can be pretty limiting when you factor in the size of the park. Games like fetch or frisbee are a bit difficult when the park is full.
All this being said, this is downtown NYC. Asking for a large space is impossible and this is about as good as you could ask for. There is a greater park outside of this dog run. It has ball fields, basketball courts, and a few other attractions for the locals. That being said, your canine is not allowed on any of the ball fields or courts, on or off a leash.
In accordance with the state of New York, you are required to keep your canine vaccinations up to date, and you are required to carry with you proof that they have up to date rabies vaccinations at all times when you are on public grounds, even if they are on a leash. This is for the safety of all the canines and animals at the park. To contact the authorities about any issues with unattended canines or canines who do not meet the legal requirements, you may call 311 from any phone in NYC or dial 212-NEW-YORK. This can put you in touch with the NYC Parks Department.
