Watertown Dog Park

The city of Watertown lies only a few miles east of Pelican Lake and Lake Kampeska in central South Dakota. The city has a large community garden and numerous churches, as well as several dog-friendly parks that residents love to take their dogs to. Among these is Watertown Dog Park, a fully-equipped dog play area where owners can take their dogs for socialization and playtime. 

The park itself is separated into two separate areas, each one appropriate for dogs above and below the 20-pound marker. The areas are fully fenced, allowing owners to let their dogs run off-leash after entering the enclosure. Grassy, flat terrain offers dogs the chance to get up to speed during play, while the larger enclosure offers obstacle courses that owners can guide their dogs through if they so desire. 

Small trees offer a little reprieve from the sun, which can sometimes be scorching in the summertime. You'll want to carry plenty of drinking water for you and your dog, as well as any umbrellas or tarps that can provide shade if you plan on staying on a sunny day. Watertown Parks, Recreation, and Forestry manages the dog park, and they ensure that the park is kept clean. 

The Watertown Dog Park does provide poop bags at each of the separate dog play areas so that you can pick up after your dog, and posted rules remind dog owners that they are responsible for leaving the park as clean and enjoyable for others as they found it. At any given time, you might run into one or several local residents, all of whom enjoy using the Watertown Dog Park.
