Located in Queens, New York City, Doughboy Plaza and Windmuller Park are located in the heart of Sunnyside Gardens. The park itself is surrounded by low rise apartments, condo buildings, and homes. It is considered to be a quiet neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.
The area is perfect for dogs who prefer to have alone time without several dogs and people around. Doughboy Plaza is family friendly and enclosed by trees to make it feel less like a big city and more like a suburb. The park is a hangout for kids who enjoy playing on the playground and dogs who want to veg out.
There is also a pool area, squash courts, benches, game tables and even a small sledding hill for those significant winter snowfalls. The park is earthy and quaint however don’t expect a lot of grassy areas, as most of it is just dirt due to all the foliage and walking traffic.
There’s a small fenced in area for dogs named Windmuller Dog Park that provides them a place to be off-leash. It’s no-frills and not a typical dog area so bring toys and activities if the pup prefers to do something more active. Most people allow their dogs off the leash outside of the fencing so please be aware if a dog should run up to you while entering the park.
Dog owners tend to converse near the historic statue while watching their pups play nearby. The cleanliness of the Windmuller Dog Park at Doughboy Plaza is hit or miss so, please watch out for potential droppings throughout and clean your dog’s paws after playing within the designated dog area. Doughboy Plaza dog rules comply with all New York City Park guidelines.
Please make sure your dog has rabies vaccinations and keep proof of vaccines and license available at all times. Pooches should be on a leash at all times unless in designated dog areas. Pups are not allowed in the playground, sports, or other areas with activities. As always, please throw away poop bags after picking up after your dog. Doughboy Plaza is fun for all and a great place to hang out with your dog and read a book.
