Yachats State Recreation Area

The Yachats State Recreation Area near Newport on the Oregon Coast is a state park with plenty of area and opportunities for beachside fun. Yachats is a Native American word thought to mean “at the foot of the mountain.” The face of Cape Perpetua stands just south. Over 600,000 people visit the Yachats State Recreation Area each year. 

This is a popular destination for fishing and other day-use activities and has just over 93 acres of rocky beachfront area. It has a variety of natural features like tide pools and wildlife habitats, as well as a serene view of the Yachats River. The park is a great spot to watch for gray whales during their migration. The views and wildlife make this park a great place to spend the afternoon.

The park has a protected fishing area and preserves fish that spawn along the beach. The Yachats State Recreation Area is a great place for salmon fishing and clamming. There are also benches for resting and enjoying the views, and picnic tables for enjoying a meal. If you bring a barbecue or grill, exercise caution and never leave cooking devices unattended.

The Yachats State Recreation Area is open every day from sunrise to sunset. It is day-use only, there are no overnight facilities or camping, and no reservations are necessary. There are no fees required for admission or use. Bring your pets to the Yachats State Recreation Area. Leashes are required for all dogs. 

Be respectful of park rules and other guests.
