It's great fun heading into the hills with your best fur buddy for a hike. A pawsome place to do it just outside of Altadena in California is on the Altadena Crest Trail. You'll find a parking lot at the trailhead which is just a few hundred yards along Pinecrest Drive. Restrooms and water fountains are located there too to help you get ready for the trek. This is not an overly long hike, but it can be a warm one, so make sure you're carrying enough water for you and your fur baby.
The Altadena Crest Trail is a dry, dusty track in places, paved in others, and winds its way along the ridge top of a hill. You and your pup will encounter quite a few steep inclines to tackle before you reach the end of the trail. This is great dog walking country and your pup will certainly be up for the challenge. Parts of the trail are lined with trees so you can both take time out in the shade if you need to.
You may encounter mountain bikers and horseback riders along the Altadena Crest Trail. Horses always have priority over hikers, but trail etiquette states cyclists should give way to you and your pup. Though on most parts of the trail, there's enough room for everyone to pass without it being a bother.
This is a very scenic trail, and as you go roaming the Altadena Crest with your pup, you'll be able to see as far as the ocean and have a furrific view of the city of Los Angeles, as well as the treetops of the Angeles National Forest. Taking a picnic or some snacks to share with your fur baby along the way is a paw-some idea. They'll love eating out in the open air, and it means you'll get to spend more time together. Be sure to bring any needed supplies for the trail, including clean up bags as none are available.
Have a puptastic day with your pup along the Altadena Crest Trail!
