Description

California has some puptastic hiking trails, and one of the best is the Angels Creek Trail near the town of Angels Camp. This trail is located in the Glory Hole Recreational Area at New Melones Lake. There are two trailheads for the two and a half mile long loop. One is at the Bush Brook Day Use Area right next to the parking lot and the other at the Angel Creek boat launch. There is a parking lot there too.

To access the area, you'll need to purchase either a New Melones Lake day pass for $8, or annual one for $50. If you and your fur buddy are not camping overnight, you'll need to time your visit. The access roads to the Glory Hole closes at night time. The time varies depending on the season, so check what's posted in the parking lot before you go on your hike.

Once you set off on your hike, your fur baby needs to be leashed. It's much safer for them even if you have a well-trained pup which responds quickly to voice commands. Your pup will still be able to do what it loves best, which is keeping you company while outdoors. The Angel Creek trail is a beautiful one too. Most of the loop skirts the lake shoreline, so there are paw-some views over the water almost the whole way. The track is a dirt one and quite narrow in places, but it makes for comfortable walking as there are no steep inclines to scramble up. You'll encounter some parts of the trail which are wooded, and these are shady.

While there is water available at both trailheads, there is none on the route. You'll need to take some water plus some poop bags too. All pet owners using the trails are expected to be responsible about cleaning up after their fur baby which is never a hardship when you love them The scenery on this trail is superb and if you want to enjoy it for longer stay the night, the campsites are pet-friendly. Have a fur-ific hike in Angels Creek!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
Avoid hiking at dusk, as this is cougar country and that's when they come out to hunt. You may also come across a rattlesnake, so be sure to keep your distance.
